Coinciding with FIAC and Paris Internationale opening in Paris – a selection of Daata Editions artworks are now featured on Apple TV through the DAD app!

The selected Daata Editions artists are Ed Fornieles, Leo Gabin, Michael Manning, Jillian Mayer, Takeshi Murata, Hannah Perry, Hannah Quinlan & Rosie Hastings, Jon Rafman, Jacolby Satterwhite, Artie Vierkant, Saya Woolfalk. Their works are available for streaming on Apple TV through the DAD app, as well as on the DAD website and iPhone app.

DAD is Digital Art on Demand on iPhone, Apple TV, and the web. Moving image artworks are selected by partner institutions on their curated channels, and available on-demand to their global audience. Current channels include the most recent edition of the Berlin Biennale, the Chalet Society, and XPO Studio – streaming over 100 artworks by artists such as DIS, Simon Denny, assume vivid astro focus, Grégory Chatonsky, Danielle Dean, Andreas Nicolas Fischer, Joe Hamilton, It’s Our Playground, Sabrina Ratté, Katie Torn, and many more.

To coincide with the opening of the 73rd Venice International Film Festival, Daata Editions and Zuecca Project Space collaboratively present Oh the Humanity, an exhibition of video works by Daniel Keller & Martti Kalliala, Takeshi Murata, Jon Rafman, opening at the Hotel Excelsior on Wednesday 31 August 2016, 6 – 9pm.

The exhibition opens a dimensional window from the world of cinematography and the recreation of reality, to the a realm of digital and virtual media, where the suspension of disbelief is heightened and the connection to the “now” all the more vibrant. The project aims to re-contextualize video and digital artwork by breaking out from the white-cube and into the “real-world”. Daata Editions‘ mission of creating/commissioning “democratic” art pieces, is fulfilled by confronting the general public with the work that in turn is assimilated into the environment and becomes part of a new concept of exhibiting.

A Case for Digital Art
New media artists are creating some of the most innovative and exciting art today. But how do you find a platform for work that only exists on a screen? The art marketplace, Daata Editions, has the answer and they want to share it with you.

The concept of digital art is a much-debated topic. For collectors, the idea of buying a work that’s not a physical object can be hard to grasp, and that makes it difficult for galleries to show the art in question. But the fact of the matter is that digital art is some of the most weirdly wonderful, smart work being made by young artists today. They just need a platform for it.
That’s where Daata Editions comes in. The pioneering online marketplace commissions 18 video, sound, and internet artists to create six new works each season. Launched last year, and now in its second series, which was released last week, Daata has worked with established artists such as Tracey Emin and up-and-comers like Chloe Wise and Amalia Ulman. Paradoxical filmmaker Jon Rafman is even giving away his Daata commission for free!

The most important part is that Daata is giving these artists the ability to create works that might not otherwise be made. And for that, we should all be grateful!

Daata Editions 3rd Artwork Released on 12 Oct

Daata Editions, the online platform for the sale of commissioned artist video, sound and web editions, is pleased to announce the third artwork release for Season One. The artworks will be available at http://daata-editions.com from 5pm on Monday 12 October with a special release event at the Daata Editions Lounge at the Zabludowicz Collection. The release coincides with the Jon Rafman and Charles Richardson shows opening at the Zabludowicz Collection.

Daata Editions was developed to enable audiences to view contemporary artists who are working in digital mediums, showing artworks made for, and therefore best viewable on, laptops, iPads, iPhones, screens and even cinemas. This new and innovative way to collect art is designed specifically to be a native platform to a new generation of artists who work with moving image and sound, and to empower artists, audiences and the marketplace in an area of artistic practice that remains underrepresented within traditional art market models.

For Season One, Daata Editions has commissioned 18 artists to create six new artworks each in editions of 20, with 15 going on sale to the public via the website and five others automatically put aside for philanthropy. All artworks last no longer than approximately three minutes and are made in ways that challenge traditional modes of exhibition, reception and, therefore, of collecting as well. Daata Editions artists commissioned for the Season One are: Ilit Azoulay, Helen Benigson, David Blandy, Matt Copson, Ed Fornieles, Leo Gabin, Daniel Keller & Martti Kalliala, Lina Lapelyte, Rachel Maclean, Florian Meisenberg, Takeshi Murata, Hannah Perry, Jon Rafman, Charles Richardson, Amalia Ulman, Stephen Vitiello, Chloe Wise.

David Gryn, Director of Daata Editions, said: “It is important that while we continue to find new artists whose work pushes the definition of contemporary art, we also develop formats through which such work can be best accessed and understood. We also need far more competition from similar platforms that commission, show and sell digitally made art online to empower artists, audiences and the marketplace alike.”

In addition to the commissions available for purchase, all subscribers to the platform receive a free Jon Rafman artwork, made specifically for Daata Editions.
